Pretty Work, Pretty Lights

Pretty Lights

For nearly two years now, Derek Vincent Smith, better known as Pretty Lights has been hard at work making what seems to be one of the most intense electronic albums in recent times.  Rather than sift thru piles of records in search of ones fit to remix, Pretty Lights has been recording sessions with musicians from all over the world, pressing those sessions onto vinyl, and remixing them in order to create something that is 100% original Pretty Lights. The album, A Color Mapping of the Sun, is due out July 2nd and will be released on Pretty Lights website for free, much like his other albums.  If you, much like myself, feel such work should not go unrewarded, the album will also be released on iTunes for purchase and in a limited sets of vinyl and CD.  What do you think? Check out the preview video:

Pretty Lights about video: “The first half of this video is part of a track from the Live Studio Sessions recordings of the new Pretty Lights album, “A Color Map of the Sun.” The second half is the song that was made from sampling the first recording. The purpose of the video is to show the production process of the album; homemade vinyl + modular synthesis.”
