Most people probably think of an award nomination as a good thing. That is, unless your are Deadmau5, who took to Twitter over the weekend to express his indifference to being nominated for Best Canadian Act at MTV’s European Music Awards, before providing a rather candid assessment of the network.
meh. can i somehow opt out of this? @mtvema

To his credit, Deadmau5 immediately realized some would take issue with this response to an award nomination.
im probably going catch a load of shit for that

After receiving some criticism that he was being ungrateful for the honor, Deadmau5 was quick to defend his position, highlighting that the ability to make and share music with his fans is where he focuses his gratitude. But he couldn’t help himself from delivering one last blow to the network.
what? the same network regurgitates completely manufactored acts, shows about pregnant teens, and twits from jersey shore. im so honored!

It’s not surprising to see Deadmau5 speaking candidly on his Twitter feed, as this isn’t the first and certainly won’t be the last bit of controversy he’s created. But it is a bit unexpected, particularly since he has been a performer at several of the network’s VMA shows.
What do you think about Deadmau5’s reaction to his nomination?
