Ah, Spring time. The news slows down, and new music is hoarded until it’s down on the beaches of Miami for Miami Music Week and Ultra Music Festival. The annual rebirth of festival season is upon us, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. New music, new trends, new everything. What will Ultra bring this year? Well, for starters, the not-so-bold prediction is that Future House (and all of which it may or may not include aka deep house, minimal, tech, techno, whatever, it’s house music) will at least be more than just an afterthought on American shores. Of course, what the rest of the world considers to be “EDM” (even though, it’s just a freakin acronym, people, get over it) will still rule supreme under the Miami sunlight, one would be silly to think that the Underground Stage will not be receiving extra attention this time. With powerhouse acts and the usual suspects performing – Carl Cox, Luciano, Tale of Us, Dusky, The Martinez Brothers, Lee Foss, Lee Burridge, Maceo Plex, Jamie Jones, the list goes on and on- combined with the wave of hype the sound is currently receiving, it’s a safe bet that the mainstream will leave Miami with an appreciation for what many consider to be “real” house music.
With that said, the list this week features an eclectic mix of productions. A snippet of a Kele Okereke release for Crosstown Rebels, a heavy dose of Kittball via Paji and Juliet Sikora, Darius Syrossian, a Toolroom release (and mix at the end!), and, who can forget, a snippet from NICK WARREN’S upcoming album. Yes, one half of the legendary Way Out West is releasing an album this year, along with alleged new Way Out West material with Jody Wisternoff, and I couldn’t be more excited. True legends in the scene, the both of them. Dusky is the throwback. Just in time for your weekend, the best in house music this week, brought to you by EDMTunes.
