The EDM industry once again crossed paths with the movie industry last Sunday night during the annual MTV Movie Awards. The show had many highlights, but one in particular, and the most important to us, was the live performance that brought together Zedd, Matthew Koma, Ellie Goulding and Miriam Bryant to perform their respective songs from the “Divergent” movie soundtrack. With Zedd on piano to start, he played along while Goulding crooned “Beating Heart” to a still crowd who hung on her every word. When she was finished, Koma came in, guitar in tow, to start off the beginning chords of “Find You,” and once the beat started going, Zedd was back in his element: behind the DJ booth to turn the show into a full-fledged party. It was yet another proclamation that dance music has a very prominent seat at the table in the music industry these days.
