[Video] Kaskade Shares His Soothing San Francisco Redux Live Set

Embarking on a twelve city Redux tour paying homage to his house roots for the second year in a row, Kaskade brought things back to the basics in small dark rooms across the country. Kaskade describes Redux as “an observance of massive sound but restrained lights, married with hedonic amounts of deep and emotive house. When you close your eyes, you’re not missing anything; you’re doing it right.” Housed in small intimate venues, sold out crowds of a few hundred people experienced the magic of Redux together. Looking back on the experience, Kaskade shares some insight via tumblr on his initial expectations in comparison to the actual realities of how Redux went down.

With the notion of dialing things back to the way things used to be, Kaskade noted that his expectation for Redux was that “the clubs would be filled with the heads that supported me early in my career. The friends and family who had been there for the entire ride.” In reality the crowd was a marriage of old and new fans. This rubbed the so-called “old fans” the wrong way with new fans showing up to the shows with very little knowledge about the concept of Redux.

The “new fans” seemed to be regarded as lesser than or called posers because they didn’t fully understand the music or were chasing the “drop”, Kaskade admits, true, some of the newer kids looked a little puzzled, waiting for something to kick in that would not be kicking on that Redux night.” Then he goes on to defend them, noting that if everyone arrives to the music then there is no difference, “what I see is that they’re not doing it wrong, they’re just doing it differently.”

For Kaskade it’s all about the music, “when everyone gets on the same page and we all get there together, I honestly do not care if it’s your first night or one-hundreth show. When it’s on, when it’s working? Magic.” That’s what Redux is all about, bringing people together and getting down to the groove. Despite some of the hiccups with scalpers and a few rowdy fans, Kaskade seems to be rather happy with the way Redux 2014 turned out. In case you didn’t get to experience in person, you aren’t excluded, Kaskade has provided a 2 hour video recording of his 3 hour San Francisco Redux set. “This music is at its core about diversity and acceptance. Not haughty tolerance and judgement. The message has always been about love and all the things that peel off from that. We can sustain an infinite amount of people. Music will not wear out, it does not decay. Nobody has to earn their way in, and if Redux does it for you? Come on in, and welcome to the deep end.”

The final verdict: The kids are alright.
