Now that the electronic dance music scene has blown up into an astounding $6.2 billion business, Diplo’s attorney David Rappaport, whose clients also include Mad Decent, Phantogram, Cold War Kids and Dirty Projectors, has joined law firm Manatt, Phelps & Phillips as a partner in the New York office in order to help build the firm’s new artist and electronic dance music roster. Not only will Rappaport be partnering with the firm, but he will also oversee the Manatt’s music transactional practice. Manatt currently represents artists like Death Cab for Cutie, Banks and Belle Brigade, making this expansion a considerably profitable move for the law firm.

The once underground, counterculture of electronic dance music has now surfaced into the mainstream business arena and has proven to be quite the cash cow for lawyers and other businessmen like Rappaport to capitalize on, with Diplo currently on the cover of Billboard magazine and Mad Decent label and block party raking in $12 million this past year.
