There seems to be a new trend in dance music. Whenever you don’t like an artist, just make a petition to ban them from their most recently announced festival. Last week, fans started a petition to ban Krewella from Summer Camp Festival. The petition came at an interesting time, as Krewella has recently been under fire for their recent lawsuit with their estranged producer Rain Man. Even the self-proclaimed Yeezus was unable to escape the wrath of angry fans. The petition to ban Kanye West from Glastonbury Festival has now reached over 129,000 supporters. When Paris Hilton was announced to play Summerfest this year, it was only a matter of time before the public backlash ensued.
Summerfest is famous for being the world’s largest music festival since 1999, according to Guinness World Records. The festival spans 11 days and will host impressive acts spread across various different genres. Electronic artists such as Kaskade will be there, as well as headliners like Linkin Park, Kendrick Lamar and Ed Sheeran. While some would say that fans could avoid Paris Hilton by catching a different set when she performs, 2,739 signees disagree. The petition attacks Paris Hilton personally, saying:
“This is a middle finger to anyone who paid to go this festival. You claim to be one of the premier festivals in America and then you go ahead and hire someone like Paris Hilton. She is a disgrace to dance music and is a perfect example of what spoiled celebrities do when they’re bored. She has no right to be paid good money to stand up there and clap her hands on a stage. That money could be used to hire credible djs that actually work hard on their craft. If Paris has any respect for dance music she would step down as she’s clearly not worthy. Signing her to Summerfest is supporting a false, non credible, and quite frankly overall terrible “musician”/”DJ”. This diminishes dance music as nothing more than a cheap show and if you have any respect for the integrity of music you will remove Paris Hilton from the lineup. Please sign and share this petition together we can at least show Paris that we won’t stand for this.”
