Avicii’s ‘The Days’ Resurfaces with Vocals by Brandon Flowers of the Killers

Avicii‘s genre-crossing experimentation over the last two years has been heavily documented. First there was his “folk-EDM” Ultra Music Festival 2013 set that received mixed reactions, and then came the release of his platinum-selling 2013 album True. His forthcoming album does not have a release date yet, but we know it will be called Stories, and we have already heard several tunes that are expected to make the final release. ‘The Days’ was released as a single in early October of last year, featuring vocals from English recording artist Robbie Williams. A few days ago, a recording surfaced of ‘The Days’ from an Avicii live set, but the vocals sounded slightly different. Why? Because they were delivered by The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers.

This demo version of ‘The Days’ with Flowers on vocals makes sense because Flowers is actually one of four co-writers of the song along with Tim Bergling (Avicii), Salem Al Fakir and Vincent Pontare. However, it is odd that Avicii just decided to play it out now. Perhaps Flowers and Bergling wanted to experiment with several vocal takes including this one and the final version by Williams. Another possibility is that Flowers sang this demo to give Williams an example of how the song was written to sound. Regardless of the reason for it’s existence, this demo is not much different from what was eventually released with Williams on the mic, but Flowers’ distinct voice can easily be identified. Check out the unreleased demo of ‘The Days’ with Brandon Flowers at the helm below, and let us know if songwriter Flowers or officially enlisted Robbie Williams did a better job on the track.
