Matoma – Hakuna Matoma
These days, it seems everyone is trying to find a new and innovative way to market and release their music. With Steve Angello‘s Wild Youth being unveiled in chapters, and Avicii‘s creative Instagram game serving as promotion for Stories, it seems the marketing campaign for albums are now just as elaborate and well-thought as the music they’re promoting. While I’m not here to critique the mainstream marketing techniques of your favorite artist, Matoma has finally unveiled his long-awaited album, aptly named Hakuna Matoma, and has decided to get in on a bit of the fun.
The 8-track album bodes well to showcase Matoma’s ability to combine his light, tropical sound with a diverse blend of artists and sounds. Released to Soundcloud, Matoma has decided to post the beginnings of his album, and promises to continue adding more music – with “a lot of surprises” – to the body of songs currently released. Notable hits like “Old Thing Back“and “Feeling Right (Everything is Nice)” featuring DC rapper Wale and Popcaan are supported well by songs like the anthemic “Find Love” and the upbeat, groovy melody of “The Wave”. Ultimately Hakuna Matoma is an excellent display of the Norweigien DJ’s ability to craft beautiful tropical melodies to compliment the strengths of the vocals provided.
Matoma is currently supporting The Chainsmokers on their Friendzone Tour, which will be stopping at various locations along the Midwest this week. Grab tickets here and be sure to keep checking Matoma’s Soundcloud for new releases. 2015 was a big year for the tropical house movement, and we have no doubts that Matoma will be making even bigger waves in 2016. Listen to what’s been released of the album below, and let it be the back drop to a relaxing Sunday
