Despite only being allotted a small niche at the Grammys, electronic music still gets annual recognition at music’s premier awards event. This year’s ceremony saw a plethora of up-and-coming talent surface and thrive. In the EDM arena, artists like The Chemical Brothers, Disclosure, Jamie XX, Caribou, Above & Beyond, Flying Lotus, and Galantis all received recognition, with Skrillex and Diplo finishing atop the pack.

Before 2016, Skrillex had received 7 Grammy nominations, and 5 awards for his titles “Bangarang”, “Promises”, “Cinema”, and “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites”. Receiving two more wins this year for his work with Diplo and Justin Bieber puts Skrillex at an even 7 Grammy victories – exactly one ahead of the legendary duo Daft Punk (6 awards, 12 nominations).

As electronic music continues to break into the mainstream, we’re optimistic that the Grammy Awards will eventually allow for a greater number of artists to receive the same honor. For now, we will rely on artists like Skrillex and Daft Punk to continue bridging the social gab between a 4-decade-old genre and the rest of the music world.
