One of the best things in music is the ability to build on the past, whether it be an artist, genre, style, sound, or even music festival. Blues and jazz in the early 20s and 30s laid a lot of the groundwork for the early years of rock and roll, while funk and R&B were early precursors to hip hop and rap. This opportunity in the music industry to draw inspiration from the people that came before us does not just apply to artists and genres, rather it can be seen all across the spectrum, most notably at a New York music festival – Mysteryland USA. Coming into its third year, Mysteryland USA does not have a long-standing history, but its venue – Bethel Woods – was the site of the original Woodstock Festival in 1969. Woodstock is renowned as one of the early pioneers of music festivals, bringing some of the biggest names of the time, like Jimi Hendrix, for unforgettable performances, and now, nearly 50 years later, Mysteryland USA is doing the same.
In an era of dance music where both headliners and undercard artists are stretched thin across too many festivals, Mysteryland USA has managed to set itself apart by providing top-notch musical programming and a variety of activities, like yoga, meditation, art installations, and more. Mysteryland USA does not go for the biggest names in dance music, they go for the names that best fit the vibe the festival producers are curating, and this year is no different. Mysteryland USA has already announced the first phase of artists that will be playing the festival this year – topped with talent like ODESZA, Skrillex and Bassnectar, while slowly rolling out another slew of headliners day-by-day this week.
We’ve already got Ty Dolla $ign, Art Department and Lido, and today, we have the exclusive opportunity to announce Joris Voorn as Mysteryland USA’s latest headliner. Known for his unique brand of house and techno, Joris Voorn is not a name that you’d expect to see on an EDM festival lineup, but he’s an absolute legend in the underground scene. We can’t wait to see what he has in store for us at Mysteryland, which will take place from June 10 – 13 at Bethel Woods, and you can get your tickets above.
