Known as Canada’s largest electronic music festival, 2016 is the fifth consecutive year Veld will touch down at Toronto’s Downsview Park. Part owner of the festival Deadmau5 will headline for the second consecutive year and fourth out of five. (Rumor has it that in 2014—the only year he did not play the festival—he sat at the top of the closed off hill behind Downsview Park and watched the festival from afar.) Other headliners include Flume, Kygo, Martin Garrix, and duos The Chainsmokers & DVBBS, who both fell victim to last year’s day two cancellations. Duke Dumont, Excision, Galantis, Matoma and New World Punx were also included in the first round of artist announcements. Those revealed as part of the phase two lineup include Gryffin, Dzeko & Torres, Ephwurd, and Netsky.
Canada had a rough go at it with weather last summer, with four festivals enduring weather problems or cancellations. In additions to Veld canceling the majority of day two, Digital Dreams was forced to cancel its first day due to a storm, Bestival was cold and wet the entire time and those who attended GoHard Festival experienced a full day of rain. Here’s to a better summer of weather for Canada and Canada’s music festivals. Boasting one of the top festival communities, particularly in the Toronto area, the people of Canada deserve to be treated this year; the lineups they have received certainly plan on doing just that. You can see the full Veld lineup below, and we’ll see you at Downsview Park on July 30th!
