We thought the end of 2016 might mean the bleeding of dance music festivals would come to an end as well. We are not even one month into 2017 and we have already lost two more festivals. Obviously, you have heard at this point about the cancellation of BPM Festival in Mexico, but today, Insomniac dropped another hammer.
It was announced rather abruptly that EDC UK would be cancelled indefinitely, while ticket sales for a 2017 edition of the festival had already begun. Upon hitting the EDC UK website, you will see the following message:
OUR PLANS TO GROW AND IMPROVE THE FESTIVAL AT MILTON KEYNES HAVE NOT DEVELOPED AS WE HAD HOPED, AND WE ARE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO STAGE EDC UK THIS JULY IN A MANNER THAT MEETS ALL OF OUR HIGH EXPECTATIONS.
AS A RESULT, WE ARE INDEFINITELY POSTPONING THE SHOW UNTIL WE CAN PROPERLY REIMAGINE ALL AREAS OF THE EXPERIENCE. WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE WE KNOW THIS CAUSES, AND WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING.
While there have been many high profile festival cancellations, this is one of the biggest festival cancellations where ticket sales had already begun. This comes on the heels of Insomniac’s cancellation of EDC New York in 2016 along with EDC Puerto Rico in 2015. That means the only remaining EDC Festivals are Las Vegas, Orlando, Mexico, India and Japan. Refunds are available here.
