Don Diablo drops Essential Mix

Every real fan of dance music knows the weight that a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix carries – a true staple and dream for every DJ/producer in the game. It’s a vehicle for the newest and hottest artists, along with legendary ones such as Deadmau5 and Eric Prydz, to showcase and broadcast their sound to the world. Rightfully so, Future House maestro Don Diablo finally got the call to join the roster of Essential Mix artists.

This morning, Don Diablo made his BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix debut and it was nothing short of breathtaking how he masterfully managed to cram over 70 tracks into one two-hour set. The first half of the mix is nostalgic, beginning towards the earlier part of his career; it features several tracks from the early years such as ‘I Am Not From France’ and ‘Disco Disco Disco’. What follows can only be described as a guided tour through Don Diablo’s distinguished career, featuring some of his earliest remixes for the likes of artists including Justice, Labrinth and Mika.

The second half of the Essential Mix showcases Don Diablo’s more recent releases. Simply put: it’s bangers for days. It’s nearly impossible to listen to the mix without having extreme respect for the catalog he has managed to create over his career. This part of the mix revisits some of his most popular tracks such as ‘Starlight’, ‘Anytime’, and ‘Chemicals’. And, a special mention: the record containing a classic sample from The Jungle Brothers‘ track “I’ll House You”, which was released on Uprise Music/Spinnin’ Records, is one of our personal favorites.

Well done, Don.
