Ultra Music Festival 2018 marked five years since Swedish House Mafia had last played together, but luckily for music fans everywhere, it also marked their long-awaited reunion.

While Axwell & Sebastian Ingrosso were without a doubt busy touring the globe, it was Steve Angello who opted for the solo route and ended up making some of his best work to date. Angello recently sat down with Paper Magazine for a rare interview. In the interview we get a glimpse into the mind of Steve Angello, as well as his take on the current state of dance music. Below is a summary of the interview, and you can read it in his entirety via Paper Magazine below.

When asked what “Trends or changes he liked or disliked in the recent music landscaped“:

“… Music is a creative driving force and therefore I think we should respect artists who go against the stream and bend the rules. Music has always been a form of expression and now more than ever we have the strength to make changes in the world!”

When asked “Musically where are you at now?:

I’m being a kid again. I break rules, I have fun and I don’t care what anyone thinks. My music is honest, different and my way of speech and at the end of the day, that’s all that matters.”

When questioned about the inclusion of biblical references on his upcoming album:

Every piece of music I make requires a complete breakdown of my soul… I search higher powers- this time it became the orthodox church. My belief in a future past…Music is my blood so my belief in what I create is stronger than higher powers. I am my own god.

When asked what can be expected of him next?:

” I really look forward to the HUMAN release! …I feel like it has to drop now so I can go out there and tour it! Other than that I’m already in the studio for the third album.”

It’s nice to see that Steve is already working so hard on a third album, although his sophomore album titled HUMAN is yet to be released; Human is set to drop on April 27th, 2018 on his own SIZE Records.

Angello also debuted the official music video for his latest track and single from the album ‘Nothing Scares Me Anymore‘ featuring Sam Martin, which you can view below.
