Yesterday, many Instagram users found a glitch where a set of skewed grey bars appeared on top of images in their feed and stories. It may have looked as if you were entering the matrix, you found a cool new hipster filter, or your account was hacked. But don’t worry! Fortunately, it’s just another software glitch. We all know how Twitter blows up with concerned users whenever a glitch or outage occurs, and yesterday was no different. Users around the world are experiencing the glitch, but luckily the bars do not cover the entire image and do not appear on every post.
We’re aware of an issue making bars appear over some photos. We know this is frustrating and are working to resolve it as quickly as possible.

Obviously, it’s not the end of the world and the glitch will most likely be patched within the next few days. Instagram tweeted earlier yesterday that they were aware of the bars and would be working as fast as possible to resolve the issue. While some had their whole day ruined by the event, some optimistic users expressed their enjoyment for the bars and thought it worked as a great filter. At least during moments like these, we all come together on social media to express our concerns for something we all care about.
At the moment, Instagram has not released any more updates on the issue but in the meantime, you can take a look at how those on Twitter reacted to the bug so far.
