Martin Solveig Apologizes

The French veteran DJ by the name of Martin Solveig has been facing heavy criticism the past day online, after asking Ada Hegerberg, the winner of the first ever women’s Ballon d’Or, to “twerk” on stage. Solveig, who was chosen to co-host the coveted award ceremony in Paris, asked the Norwegian footballer – who scored 15 goals for Lyon this year in the Champions League – if she “knew how to twerk” in celebration moments after she won the landmark award .

Hegerberg awkwardly replied with a simple “no”.

Criticism of Solveig’s inappropriate remark spread like wildfire online across all social media platforms with many claiming that he had ruined a significant moment in Hegerberg’s life.

The French DJ took to Twitter to issue an apology statement:

Hegerberg later spoke on the issue, saying that she accepted his apology.
“He came to me afterwards and as really sad that it went that way,” she said. “I didn’t really consider it sexual harassment or anything in the moment. I was just happy to do the dance and win the Ballon d’Or.”

Solveig also later on tweeted a photo of the pair smiling together backstage after the incident:
“I explained to @AdaStolsmo the buzz and she told me she understood it was a joke,” he wrote. “Nevertheless my apologies to anyone who may have been offended. Most importantly congratulations to Ada.”
