This summer is proving to be an exciting time for up and coming artists. Among them is jazz pianist turned DJ and producer, LP Giobbi, an Oregon native taking LA by storm. In a little over a year, LP has managed to co-found the banner FEMMEHOUSE with her manager, Lauren Spalding. She released her latest single, ‘Dejala Pasar’ on FEMMEHOUSE via her and Sofi Tukker‘s collective, Animal Talk.
In addition to producing, she works alongside Spalding to deliver technical workshops for women and LGBTQ+ artists. We spoke to LP about how FEMMEHOUSE came to be and the importance of representation in dance music.
“I was meeting so many talented female artists. They were amazing songwriters, artists, and musicians, who were waiting for a male producer (or producer which obviously happen to be male) to take them out of obscurity. It was crazy to see that. I became really impassioned on trying to get us the tools to do it ourselves.”
LP Giobbi, FEMMEHOUSE
There’s so much to say about LP’s single and, overall, her unique style. ‘Dejala Pasar’ features a sound design that successfully combines the light and dark tones of house music. This flavor is represented through ghostly vocals from WITHN. You’ll dance along to the pulsing bass line and swift piano melody. She’s got this natural groove, a tantalizing taste that’ll leave you wanting more. It reminds us of good times. That one rooftop bar where you feel most at home or that crazy party you sort of remember in Miami — that summer dream.
