Renowned electronic music producer and DJ, Porter Robinson; celebrates the 5th anniversary release of his first ever LP ‘Worlds‘ via Astralwerks and Virgin EMI.
It has been half a decade since North Carolinian producer shocked the dance music realm with his invariably controversial album ‘Worlds’. Since before it’s release the all-praised breakout star had taken a perturbed year long hiatus; after 2 years actively touring and promoting his ‘Spitfire‘ EP and his enduring hit single “Language“.
At the time, Porter vexed his hard hitting complextro and bombastic four-on-the-floor trance-like big room DJ playlist; as dance music had continued to solidify itself within the mainstream. Thus, taking it upon himself to seamlessly experiment and unearth new-ground with a modern revitalization of electronic euphoria; even if it meant alienating his fanbase.
“The more I forced myself to work within those DJ-friendly limits, the more I resented the genre.”
Porter Robinson
5 years later, ‘Worlds’ has left an undeniable impact on dance music as it apportioned for artists to push for new boundaries; as well as had always left listeners with query towards emotions, perspective, and life. The 12-track LP is a glistening relic as tracks such as “Divinity“, “Sad Machine“, “Sea Of Voices“, “Fellow Feeling” ; and more invoke tranquility and an immense sense of nostalgia.
“It’s not an album that concerns itself with reality, it’s about escapism and fantasy. It’s meant to evoke worlds you experience in literature and games and movies.”
Porter Robinson
The release of ‘Worlds’ meant the embarkment of a live show performance from Porter Robinson; as he headlined popular music festivals such as Ultra Music Festival, Coachella, and EDC Las Vegas. Eventually, playing various festivals ultimately lead to playing his very own hosted and self-curated Second Sky music festival in 2019.
