GoPro has finally announced that its new Hero 8 Black model will drop on October 1st, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. EST.
An apparent leak in August gave us reason to believe that the new model would be arriving in late September 2019 and the wait is finally over. It comes just a few months after the release of DJI Osmo Action, which soared up the ladder of success in Spring 2019. With new features, it’ll be interesting to see how it shapes up next to other camera technologies.
The Media Model, a new housing, will include attachment features of external additions. Included are a 10-LED light mod, a highly-requested microphone, and a new screen. A new lens is expected to boost video quality, with the ability to shoot 4K at 120 fps and full HD at 480fps. That’s double the shooting speed of its predecessor model, the Hero 7 Black.
Leaked by German website WinFuture, the Hero 8 Black will have built-in mounting plates, meaning a smooth fit onto tripods and helmets.
Other things, however, will stay the same, like the GoPro size, remaining at the 12-megapixels seen in the last two models. The battery also appears to be the same 1,200mAh unit from the Hero 7 Black. Some tech tweaks may improve battery life, though, allowing more than the 45 minutes of 4K/60p video recording from previous models.
As of now, price tags are still unknown. But we’re hoping GoPro will follow the generous listing of DJI Osmo Action’s RRP, which was £50 less than the Hero 7 Black. Regardless, it’s a fresh and evolved piece of technology that will enhance the way we capture moments worth keeping.
