As critics cried that the President was not taking COVID-19 seriously enough, he unleashed the most serious steps we’ve seen for this type of threat. Now Miami Music Week as a whole is at risk. All travel from EU to the US is suspended for 30 days beginning Friday at midnight.
There are two main takeaways from his quick speech. The first is that the government are going to be providing aid/loans to small businesses. But for our interests, we are directly affected by the second:
“We will be suspending all travel from Europe to the United States for the next 30 days. The new rules will go into effect Friday at midnight. These restrictions will are be adjusted subject to conditions on the ground,” the President said from the Oval Office.
He went on to say, “these prohibitions will not only apply to the tremendous amount of trade and cargo, but various other things as we get approval. Anything coming from Europe to the United States is what we are discussing. These restrictions will also not apply to the United Kingdom.”
Of course, many took to social media because of this shocking news. Also, the electronic music industry is now focusing on next week’s Miami Music Week. There are two things though that could still allow the event to happen; the travel suspension goes into effect Friday at midnight. Maybe DJs will be able to make it over in time. Also, like mentioned above, the temporary suspension will not include the UK.
With a substantial amount of DJs set to play that come from Europe, will they be able to make it? Where are they now? Carl Cox was just at CRSSD. Is he still in the US? Ah! Also, pray for Tom Hanks and his wife!
