It seems that rave culture will not be making its return any time soon. According to The New York Times, a medical expert is predicting that concerts will not return until, the earliest, Fall 2021.
When asked if things would return to normal once lockdown ends, Zeke Emmanuel, a director of the Healthcare Transformation Institue at the University of Pennsylvania, stated:
“Larger gatherings — conferences, concerts, sporting events — when people say they’re going to reschedule this conference or graduation event for October 2020, I have no idea how they think that’s a plausible possibility. I think those things will be the last to return. Realistically we’re talking fall 2021 at the earliest.”
This prediction was a part of a hosted panel on how to restart the economy once the pandemic has ended. It has been agreed that the United States would have to reopen little by little in case there is a second wave of the outbreak. Therefore, it may be possible that we won’t see any concerts for a while. Currently, COVID-19 is impacting the music industry immensely. If Emmanuel’s prediction is correct, the industry will be looking at a longer devastation period.
The future for music festivals has been uncertain as many events have been either postponed and canceled. With this prediction, it seems that many of them, such as Ultra Music Festival and EDC Las Vegas, will not even have a 2021 edition. Only time will reveal if this will be true.
