Despite reports that Apple’s iPhone 12 may be delayed due to COVID-19, we’re still hearing leaks about new features. According to a video by EverythingApplePro, the soon approaching iPhone 12 Pro model will include a 120Hz display. While Apple’s OLED displays are already impressive, they’ve been lacking the 120Hz refresh rate most competitor smartphones already have.
Currently, the newest iPhone 11 models all have 60Hz displays. For those unfamiliar, a 120Hz display has a higher refresh rate that a 60Hz display. A higher refresh rate allows content and movement to look smoother and crisper. Those that primarily play games or watch media on their phones will appreciate the higher refresh rate. It’s difficult to notice the crispness of a 120Hz display by watching a video online but you’ll notice the difference in person.
Considering Apple’s iPad Pro models currently have a 120Hz ProMotion display, it makes sense for the iPhone to have one as well. Going back to the report, it’s stated that the top iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone Pro Max models will sport the fancy ProMotion display. Unfortunately, the cheaper 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch models will still have a 60Hz display. While still at 60Hz, these models will reportedly have an OLED screen compared to LCD.
Again, we’ll have to wait and see if the iPhone 12 lineup will go forward as planned. Considering how almost every other event has been impacted by the virus, it wouldn’t be surprising if Apple’s launch is next.
