Burning Man recently launched a crowdfunding campaign to assist with future funds. Sadly, the COVID-19 pandemic leaves many festivals, including Burning Man, postponed until 2021.
The pandemic also makes it difficult for those in the live events or entertainment industry to secure revenue. Burning Man went virtual this year with the creation of Multiverse, an online experience aimed to replicate the live one.
Burning Week, which will take place on August 30-September 6, will now take place in the Multiverse, at least for 2020. The future of Burning Man is uncertain.
The Burning Man Project created a crowdfunding page in order to maintain “the critical infrastructure we’ll need, after cuts to expenses and staffing, [and] to produce Black Rock City 2021.”
The rest of their online statement reads-
Sadly we will not be gathering in the Black Rock Desert in 2020. Though this will result in an unprecedented revenue shortfall for Burning Man Project, we remain optimistic. We can’t do this without your help. “With your support, we will continue to offer opportunities to share your creativity and passions and, above all else, stay connected with others in these challenging times.”
You can make a one-time or recurring donation to their campaign here.
