Glastonbury 2021 has just received the ax after fans had high hopes for this year’s event to take place. Organizers of the UK music festival made a statement about the cancellation, stating the decision was made “with great regret.”

According to the statement:

“With great regret, we must announce that this year’s Glastonbury Festival will not take place, and that this will be another enforced fallow year for us.”

The statement addresses the reason the festival is not taking place in 2021. It states organizers did their best, but they “simply will not be able to make the festival happen this year.”

Current pass holders will be given the opportunity to rollover their deposits for Glastonbury 2022 to secure a ticket. Organizers promise that they will deliver something very special for next year.

With the UK event being canceled, hopefully, other festivals will not begin to follow suit. Last year, festival-goers saw a massive cancellation mania where music events, including Coachella and Ultra Music Festival, were canceled due to the pandemic. With this announcement, we fear the first domino of the 2021 festival season has fallen and more are soon to follow.

However, there is hope that concert-goers will see the return of music events in 2021 due to the COVID-19 vaccine. Dr. Anthony S. Fauci recently estimated that concerts should see a return this fall once 70% – 85% of the population has received the vaccine. However, there have been reports of new COVID-19 mutations sweeping multiple countries, including the UK. More research continues to be done on the new mutations and the effect the vaccine can potentially have on them.
