In the midst of the scandal surrounding Governor Cuomo’s cover-up of nursing home deaths, he is trying to re-open New York. Announced on Wednesday, New York’s governor Andrew Cuomo said large sports venues can reopen with 10% of the total capacity. This applies to venues that have a capacity of 10,000 or more.

This decision is helpful as New York has a good amount of venues that fall under this decision. Barclays Center, home of the Brooklyn Nets, is already pending approval by the NBA to open at 10% capacity as early as Feb 23. Baseball stadiums, even though we are in the offseason, fall under this decision as well! This will include Citi Field, Yankee Stadium, and the infamous Madison Square Garden. However it remains to be seen whether any venues could turn a profit at 10% capacity.

This decision seems to have been an easy one for Cuomo. It was reported that when the Bills allowed 7,000 fans into their stadium for the playoffs, it was a huge success.

Lucky for us music fans! The approval of these spaces would allow them to be used as concert and show venues! A few other approvals would be needed for that to happen. However, this is a great sign. Other sports will also be concluded once they are approved by the state.
