Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike say a pair of December shows won’t go on as scheduled.

Dear friends, it’s with heavy heart that we have to tell you that our two shows in Antwerp (December 17 & 18) cannot take place in 2021,” the pair wrote on their Facebook page. “Together with Tomorrowland, we were extremely looking forward to bring the Madness to the Sportpaleis once again.”

The Belgian DJ duo blamed the cancellation on “current circumstances.”

The Brussels Times reported that Belgium recorded its highest number of new COVID cases since start of pandemic, last week. The European nation also made global headlines with the first case of a more infectious variant detected on the continent.

“We have never had so many infections in our country. Fortunately, we have such a high vaccination rate – otherwise things would have been much more dramatic in the hospitals,” Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo said.

Due to the rapid rise in infections, De Croo announced a three-week lockdown. All nightclubs must close their doors until December 15. In addition, indoor events can only take place if all guests are seated.

“I have said it before, but I will say it again: these measures will only be effective if we stick to them. This will require an effort from all of us. I call for the best possible implementation of the measures,” De Croo added.

Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike expressed disappointment at postponing the two-night event.

“We are struggling to find the right words to describe how we feel, the entire team was preparing for months to create something unseen,” the two said. “Our story in Antwerp isn’t over.”

They say they will return to the Antwerp Sportpaleis next year. December 16 and 17, 2022 are the re-scheduled show dates. The popular EDM performers’ Facebook page indicated that 2021 ticketholders will be contacted soon with more details.
