A couple times a year, Serik teaches an Online Masterclass that is spread out over eight weeks. Throughout these weeks, students get an inside look on anything from workflow, to mix-down tips, and everything other production essential that a producer at the top of their game needs. We have an exclusive chance to peep inside this summer’s series, and give our readers a small glimpse at everything that goes down in these. Over the next eight weeks, we will run this series so that any up-and-coming producer who is on the fence about this masterclass can have a solid idea of what it’s about.
Week One just finished, and obviously I expected the preliminary classes to be set at a warm up pace. That being said, this week started off with an ambitious bang. Where most online classes and schools start out with an introduction to music theory or any other more tedious musical foundations, Serik did something inventive and inspiring.
The first week was all about getting all your production ducks in a row so that the real magic starts happening in the following week. Things like creating a playlist to reference your own tracks against, how to organize your sample library, and how to get the most out of presets and sound banks. This was all explained over a well thought out two hour video class series. When all the students had a chance to review that material, Serik topped the week off with an hour-long Skype session where he could address all this material directly in an live setting.
As week one comes to conclusion, I am already blown away by how smooth and resourceful this class is. Other online classes I have taken in the past spend time with tedious facts and figures or droll over music theory until you’re falling asleep on your laptop. But Serik knows this isn’t what music is all about, he makes it fun and motivating since he knows it is more about the producer’s mindset going into every sessions than anything else.
Make sure to keep an eye on the Hyperbit’s website over the next coming months for sample packs, masterclass information, webinars, and more. A small taste of what this dude has to offer can be found through a handful of video tutorials on Hyperbit’s Vimeo page. Until next week, happy producing!
