My Way

Calvin Harris – My Way

It seems like Calvin Harris isn’t through trying to get back at his ex-girlfriend, Taylor Swift. It’s been a few months since the two officially called it quits after 15 months together. Though Taylor moved on fairly quick and even recently broke up with yet-another boyfriend, Calvin couldn’t keep her off his mind, or off his music really. The first break-up tune came in the form of John Newman crooning about infidelity in Caribbean-inspired “Ole.”

Now, Calvin finds himself singing for the first time since “Summer,” over a breezy mid-tempo arrangement with a breaking message. “My Way” is a far cry to what “Summer” was about; but it’s no denying Calvin really did put his heart upon his sleeve this time around. It’s obviously another jab against Taylor, and comparing to the one previously (re: “Ole”), he’s more successful this time around in both instrumentation and lyrics.

He recently was interviewed by iHeartRadio where he divulged about the meaning behind “My Way.”

[The] song’s kind of about breaking out of a situation that you thought was a good thing. Then, you’re way more comfortable out of it. And it could be anything. It could be a job, or it could be a relationship. I had kind of the idea for the concept for a few years, but I didn’t know how to work out how it sounded.

He also announced that “My Way” will be the last piece of material he’ll release this year.

This [‘My Way’] is probably the last thing I’ll put out this year. I did something with Big Sean for him, which he said might be out this year — which I really hope it is, because I love that. Apart from that, that’s it. One song at a time. That’s my new mantra. Try to make each song as good as it can possibly be. I’m not trying to do an album. I’m just trying to do good music.
