A police force and illegal ravers amicably resolving an incident? Count me in.

Over the weekend, an illegal rave attended by over 100 people was held in the Welsh countryside. Reports of a rave being held at Grwyne Fawr were made at 8:30 AM Sunday morning by a neighboring police team in Crickhowell. But instead of shutting down the party at that very moment, police and attendees struck a deal that the event would be over by 2PM. Dyfed-Powys Police returned at the agreed time to make sure everything was wrapped up and with lollipops in hand. According to the Crickhowell policing team, the party-goers cleaned the area and left by afternoon.

Police Chief Cheryl Rudge said: “Illegal raves can cause considerable anxiety to the local community and can be extremely dangerous. On this occasion, the group was very compliant and we managed to have what felt like positive engagement with them around taking drugs and particularly the dangers if they need medical assistance in such a remote area.”

In a society where heavy force is mostly used to shut down these illegal raves, it’s nice to see a different approach to the situation.
