American producer and DJ Diplo is a man of many talents and many names. So much that his famed stage-name had long overshadowed his real one, Thomas Wesley. That is until he presented his new project with country singer Cam back in April. ‘Heartless‘, presented this weekend is now his second track from that collaboration.
This is the sixth name under which Diplo has released music – after LSD, Major Lazer, Diplo, Silk City, and Jack U – each used for a specific genre. In this case, collaborating with rising star Morgan Wallen, the country feel is a distinct shift from the electropop, moombahton or psychedelic pop we were accustomed to.
As was the case for the first single, the melody is subtle. Special attention was paid to the bass line and percussions. The listener can appreciate the rawness of Wallen‘s vocals, as well as the melancholy of the lyrics. In the end, Diplo does well to appreciate the country genre.
Diplo released the lyric video this weekend on his YouTube channel. Both artists, who share a strikingly similar appearance, feature in a typically midwestern style video. Yet again, the American DJ has shown just how versatile his talents can be.
Summer is well upon us, and this single still has time to make it onto any August playlist.
