Apple users have long since been aware that although iTunes has one of the most prolific musical libraries, they have been somewhat behind their competition in terms of streaming radio. Programs like Pandora, and most recently Spotify have been extremely successful in allowing users to stream custom made radio stations based on their musical preferences. Of course these devices aren’t always perfect (why is Miley Cyrus coming up on my alternative rock station?). With the premiere of iTunes Radio, Apple hopes to have found a way around the occasional glitches that come with having a complicated algorithm select the music to be played on a given station. Enter the concept of the Guest DJ station; a radio station that will play music hand selected by an actual human with a capacity for music – like Diplo, who will represent the genre of Dance Music on iTunes as the first Guest DJ on the platform. You will also be able to stay up to date with the Guest DJ stations as the playlists will be updated periodically, making it easier to keep up with the ever changing world of music. And if you’re ever curious as to what Diplo is listening to, well all you have to do is log into his iTunes Radio Guest DJ station for a mix of past and present tracks hand selected by the Mad Decent artist.
