Just yesterday, Avicii revealed that 2016 will be his last year touring and performing as he will officially retire. The entire situation has the makings of a VH1 Behind The Music documentary (if you’re old enough to know what that is). There were health scares throughout his touring days, leading to cancelled shows and in 2014, he took a full-year hiatus to recover from the malaise that was plaguing him. Avicii apparently feels like his struggles would make for an interesting tale, as he has sold his Stories documentary to BBC Worldwide. It will provide a window into what he has been going through from the release of his debut album until now.
Stories is directed by Levan Tsikurishvili and will take an in depth look into the Swedish house icon’s life. The film will showcase the good, the bad and the ugly and will hopefully help us understand exactly what Tim is going through. The Director of Music for BBC Worldwide gave his input on the career of Avicii:
“Avicii redefined the boundaries of contemporary dance music with his debut album. His hits have gone gold and platinum in 25 countries, but little is known about the man behind the music. This film promises to give fans and music lovers an insight into the unbelievable world of a superstar artist, from the highs of playing to packed stadiums around the world to the lows of illness and struggling to get back to the stage. We are very excited to see the finished project later this year.” – Salim Mukaddam
You can be sure to hear more about this in the coming months. Perhaps this documentary will provide the closure the fans need as Avicii closes the book on his touring and performing chapter… for now.
