Sunset Music Festival, which happened this past weekend at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, FL with over 30,000 attendees, sadly ended in tragedy – two deaths and 57 individuals needing medical attention at the hospital.
The two individuals who passed, 22-year-old Alex Haynes of Melbourne and 21-year-old Katie Bermudez of Kissimee, died in the hospital after being transported from the festival. Both were transported to the hospital on Saturday; Alex passed on Sunday, while Katie died on Monday. Police made 33 arrests at the festivals – 25 felonies and 8 misdemeanors – and also issued 16 citations for possession of marijuana.
The festival sent the following statement to local news station WFLA:
“The health, safety and welfare of our fans and community is Sunset Music Festival’s first priority and we take every measure to create a safe environment at our events. Any loss of life is a tragedy and we extend our deepest heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of those affected. Due to the ongoing investigation by the medical examiner’s office, Sunset will not issue additional comments at this time.”
A spokesperson from Tampa Sports Authority – the manager of Raymond James Stadium – also released a statement:
“We have received this information as you have through the Tampa Police Department’s release. We extend our condolences to these families for their loss. We will continue to work with the promoters of the Sunset Music Festival and local life safety agencies to provide the safest environment possible for their attendees.”
