Social media is giving both fans and event promoters an entirely new perspective in regard to how we communicate, experience and advertise our favorite dance music events. Platforms such as Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram are creating unique opportunities and insights about the events and festivals we love.

Twitter has been keeping tabs on the festivals that foster the most conversation and engagement and this is now being used as an indicator of event success, as well as future success. There are many interesting conclusions that can be drawn from the data that was gathered:

  • -Kanye West was the most mentioned artist of Governor’s Ball (New York City) even though his set was cancelled
  • -Martin Garrix was the most tweeted about artist of Lollapalooza (Chicago)
  • -Many festivals smaller artists outperformed headliners in terms of twitter engagement
  • -Chance the rapper was the most mentioned artist on twitter for Bonnaroo even though he did not perform
