Despite pre-conceived notions of the origins of House music, Doorly’s tune ‘Neanderthal’ reveals how the 4-on-the-floor beats that we’ve all come to love was actually born in pre-history. Marshall Jefferson’s featured vocals tells the story of how a caveman seduced a cavewoman with the music of natural percussive instruments like “branches and trees and other things.”

To accompany the track, which came out on Dirtybird’s Secret Sauce Compilation earlier this year, Dirtybird has released an animation in its spirit. The video features a crude, but enjoyable animation of cavemen dancing and playing percussion to the beat of the song.

Doorly is currently on a North American tour with Booka Shade and has recently released music on Play it Say it, Stint, and Cajual, among others.
