Gammer – THE DROP EP
Matthew Lee, better known as Gammer, has paved his way to success from an early age with roots deeply embedded in UK’s hardcore rave scene. Since 2002, Gammer has revolutionized the genre, establishing himself as one of the top Hardcore DJ’s and receiving awards such as the coveted ‘Best Hardcore DJ’ award for multiple consecutive years. In more recent years however, the eccentric young producer has begun pushing the boundaries within the scene. By shifting away from the confines of his hardcore identity he enters into a new realm of dance music.
Gammer has dabbled into different sounds with high profile edits of tracks by Nero, Jack U, Slander, Porter Robinson, and Marshmello. His collaborations with artists like Kayzo and Kill The Noise have also contributed to his recent style crossover. Now, Gammer is debuting original content off of his new EP THE DROP that fuses together trap and dubstep with a familiar hardcore tempo, gaining the attention of a much wider audience while also staying true to his roots. Although some fans within the hardcore community have expressed disappointment with his shift in sound, Gammer makes it clear that opinions of others won’t stop him from evolving as an artist. This EP is a true testament to that.
THE DROP begins with a filthy introduction of two previously released tracks that sets the tone for whats to come on this explosive EP. Gammer’s first ever solo dubstep track “Lets Get Crunk” is infused with a heavy bass line complemented with energizing buildups that lead into mind blowing dubstep. The EP then shifts gears with “Stay Tonight” which begins with a fast paced tempo followed by slower, more euphoric synths and pleasant vocals by soul singer Dylan Matthew that eventually picks the tempo back up and leads into a wild drumstep style drop.
The last two tracks, which have finally been released, only add more fuel to this already lit EP. “Beam of Light” is a smooth transition from “Stay Tonight” with a similar blend of a fast rhythm incorporated with more stunning synths and vocals. Finally, the EP ends with the most highly anticipated track of all. “The Drop” has been one of the most sought after ID requests since DJ Snake opened with it during his set at Coachella this past year. With a dreamy Porter like introduction followed by an explosion of heavy bass, it is rightfully deserving of the title for the entire EP.
