Investigation was initiated back in November, now multiple drug related charges have been made against six midshipmen

A festival ending is always sad, but the ending of Firefly Music Festival was extremely heart-breaking for six midshipmen. Firefly Music Festival just took place in Dover, Delaware between July 14 and July 17. Zachary Williams and Edward Hartmann of Canal Fulton were inside the campground when an undercover cop spotted Williams snorting cocaine. Then, the undercover cop bought three bags of ecstasy off of Williams; in addition Williams also offered him some cocaine.

“The United States Navy and the Naval Academy both have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to the use of illegal substances and take all allegations of misconduct seriously,” Cmdr. David McKinney said.

Williams and Hartmann were arrested shortly after they sold drugs to an undercover cop. Also, they had their vehicle searched where the officer found 33 grams of ecstasy, 4.6 grams of cocaine, 1.1 grams of marijuana and a digital scale, according to a police report. Williams and Hartman have been charged with possession with intent to deliver ecstasy, possession with intent to deliver cocaine, second-degree conspiracy and possession of marijuana. They were released on $142,000 bail. The Naval Academy announced on Tuesday that charges were based on an investigated that began back in November.

In conclusion of the investigation, six midshipmen have been kicked out of the Naval academy for using illegal substances. An additional five midshipmen were disciplined for drug-related violations. The illegal substances involved were cocaine, ecstasy, ketamine and hallucinogenic mushrooms.
