Brooklyn’s Bossa Nova Civic Club is shutting its doors after a fire incident in the building. The news was announced on the nightclub’s official Instagram, the now taken-down post stating “it’s safe to say we will be closed for a notable amount of time.”

On Wednesday, January 12th, a fire broke out on the third floor of the club building. According to reports, the venue faced a “tremendous amount of damage” due to the incident, which broke out in an apartment. Based on an Instagram story by the club, a tenant in the building was injured and a dog didn’t survive the fire.

After announcing the club’s indefinite closure, the club shared they will post more updates soon. Ultimately, they thank fans for supporting the nightclub since it opened 9 years ago.

However, there may be a chance for fans to help the venue, along with those affected by the fire. A GoFundMe page has been launched with a goal to raise $300,000.

According to a statement posted on the GoFundMe page: “This space is a second home to a lot of us and has cultivated many careers, friendships and chosen families. Bossa has endured but survived an extreme amount of adversities, during a pandemic no less. This level of harm needs the full backing of the community to restore. Please help us, thank you.”

The Bossa Nova Civic has received much love and respect since the news broke of the fire. DJs and producers such as Lauren Flax, DJ Swisha, and Sorry Records have shown their support on social media.
