South Korea has fallen victim to MERS, otherwise known as the Middle East respiratory syndrome (coronavirus), which has taken the lives of 15 people already. With Seoul to host Ultra Korea music festival and the virus still rampantly spreading throughout the peninsula, Ultra took major precautions and kept the music festival on schedule. Body heat monitors were used at the entrance of the festival to sort out potentially sick festivalgoers who could be carriers of the virus. Hand sanitizer was also distributed to further encourage the prevention of the spread of illness.
Despite the ongoing scare the festival proved highly successful, bringing in over 100,000 attendees to Seoul’s Jamsil Sports Complex over the two- day event. While many festivalgoers were seen with face masks, they didn’t seem to mind and went on enjoying the music festival. The festival roster included over 70 DJ’s, including names like Porter Robinson, Hardwell, Skrillex, Knife Party and more alongside world class production. Unfortunately main stage acts Alesso and Nicky Romero cancelled their sets due “health concerns”. Ultra Music Festival will continue on with to Croatia this coming July.
